Kuramata&Sottsass at 21-21

Escaped office and went to Roppongi Midtown to visit 21-21 design sight where Kuramata & Sottsass exhibition was performed. What Kuramata metioned like Our five sences creates the world more than logic. I put much emphasis on the sence of "afloat" in life. are still in my mind. What a beautiful life as a designer to be able to be faithful to his belief/sences in creation!

Sadao Watanabe in Johannesburg

Once he was on stage, everybody in the hall got excited. His sound peered into our heart. Though I am not a jazz enthusiast, I could see what he had experienced through his carrier as a world wide musician, he played every note through his soul, he was god and all South African audience knew that and applauded him heartedly.
２組の前座バンドがそこそこの演奏を終え、会場が待つのはあの人。彼がステージに立った瞬間、場内の雰囲気は一変。成熟した大人の観客達から歓声が上がる。彼の演奏が素晴らしいのは分かっていたけど、度肝を抜かれたのはアフリカ人の心を完全に掴んでいること。音楽という言語を使って、人々は分かりあえるということを教えてくれた。
日本から遠く離れたアフリカでどう仕事を進めるか壁に当たっていた僕は、とても重要なヒントをもらえた気がする。

Sadao Watanabe in Johannesburg

We went to listen to legend Sadao Watanabe at the Standard Bank "Joy of Jazz" festival at Newtown, near Johannesburg.
ヨハネスブルグでジョイ　オブ　ジャズというイベントに渡辺貞夫さんが出演すると聞き、早速チケットを手に入れ駆け付ける。

We were led to a nice hospitality, wait for the concert to start having wine.
こんなレセプションでワインを飲みながら開演を待ちます。

This is Newtown, nice place for nightlife, but not for those without own transportation.
会場となったNewtownという街。史上最低のスラムだったそうですが、市が街の再興に取り組み今ではパブやライブハウスが立ち並ぶ街に。でも、黒人率ほぼ１００％ですから、入りこむにはそれなりの覚悟は必要。

Ed Hardy 南アでエドハーディを

Found Ed hardy Japanese edition in a shopping center in Sandton city by surprise, led me suddenly thought about Japan. Most of African people think Japan is part of China.... Maybe this kind of ancient Japanese culture is one of the easiest way to distinguish Japan from other asian countries. The word "Japan cool" is not cool here at all.

サントンという街のショッピングセンターの化粧品コーナーでエドハーディという日本語と日本髪のイラストに釘付けに。周りは当然黒人だらけだけど、一瞬にして頭の中は日本にトリップします。
アフリカの人達は日本は中国の一部だと思っています。差別化はどうしてもこういう昔の和からということになるのかなあ。Japan coolなんて、通じませんもん。

Dance! Lecedi Cultural Villageレセディ文化村

３．４月と仕事が忙しく全く投稿できませんでしたが、ようやくプライベートが戻り、ヨハネスから車で30分ほどのレセディ文化村へ。日光江戸村のアフリカ版みたいなところ。
After terribly busy March and April, we visted the Lecedi Cultural Village abt 30miniuts from JHB. A wild welcome at the site.

南アフリカの中だけで10以上の部族がおり、それぞれの部族の風習を簡単に実演・説明してくれるのです。こういったコテージも再現されていて、泊ることもできます。

There live more than ten tribes in South Africa. Lifestyle of each tribe is reappeared and you can stay at these tribal cotages.

レストランも充実していておすすめです。

The buffet restaurant is nice and acceptable.

そして最後に圧巻なのが、このダンスタイム。

The finale was fantastic, dance time.

各民族の代表的な踊りを披露してくれます。キャストは同じですが。これは鉱山労働者を表す踊り。

They play typical dance of each tribe.

最初はよそよそしい踊りも、次第にヒートアップしていきます。

At first they dance like forced to, but they start to heat up.

ワイルドな踊りもあり。

最後は観客もステージに入って踊りまくります。これは正直楽しかった！

ちょっとした観光地にすぎないけど、南アに来たら訪れる価値はあると思います。夜のクラブに行くのは少々リスキーですが、ここなら安全。

Finally the audience is called to join, and dance together, such a fun time! Here you can enjoy dancing safely than going night clubs. I do recommend visiting this village.

Ceramic 南アフリカで陶芸

South Africa is famous for active activities like sports and sightseeing, but today we are at one artistic cotage in JHB to play ceramic.
スポーツや観光で有名な南アですが、ヨーロッパの流れをくんでアートもさかん。今日は友人の紹介でとあるアートスポットにて陶芸を習うことになりました。

A lot of object scattered in the garden.
広大な敷地には、まんまオブジェが放置されて。

Anyone knows the name of this lovely van?
これも廃車のバン。名前はわからず。どうしてもクルマに目が行ってしまいます。

After a few hours of struggle in the studio,
スタジオで一心不乱に全てを忘れ数時間粘土に向かう。

Finished a big mushroom, colored in unusual bright colors for me,maybe thanks to the kids around me. A good change of air to be like a different myself.
きのこを作りました。子供に混じって作ったためか、柄でもないパステル調となり、不思議な気分です。やはりARTは非日常に飛べるのでいいですね。

Let`s groove

visited the Gold Reef City in JHB, which was founded on the closed gold mine.
Good value for R180 with a lot of attractions.

ヨハネスブルグのゴールドリーフシティという、昔の金鉱の跡地にできたテーマパークへ。
観覧車やジェットコースター、地下２００ｍの金鉱ツアーなど、約2000円の入場料では申し訳ない位面白い。



When we headed for exit, a group of people and big noise came out.
帰り際、出口近くの広場でデカイ音楽と何やら人だかりが。

There was a DJ booth surrounded by tremendous heat of the people.
食事客にBGMを流す機材が、いつの間にかDJブースに変わっており、ものすごい熱気に包まれている。子供も元気に踊る。

Kids go up on the garbage box. They are so cute.

黒人の子供はとてもかわいい。

They don` t need any toys, need only music to enjoy. A new finding of their talent to live with music, a totally differenct attitude from ours...

アトラクションなんていらない。音楽があればいい。そんな活気に満ち溢れた人達。どうも、音に対する感覚は根本的に我々と違うような。いや、私はとても輪になんか入れず、茫然と立ちすくむのみでした。。。。

Black is hip

A hot sunny sunday at Rosebank, a famous shopping mall, where nice attraction is held. These boys were good singers and dancers.
ローズバンクというショッピングモールでの模様し。ストリートダンスの原点。

I`m sure this bag will be a boom in Japan if exported.

今日のこれ１は絶対このバッグ。既に日本に入っているでしょうか。これはイケてると思います。年末に帰国する時に持って帰ります。Kazのbagもいいけど。

London Design Museum - イラストの学校

Visited LDM, apart form the traditionl or one of the real aspect of UK design art scene.
ベイエリアのLDMへ。
伝統ある美術館も素晴らしいですが、活きているロンドンのデザインを知るにはいい場所です。


Found some Japanese design books, surely Japanese design in this field is recognized world wide.
１Fのブックストアでは「紙のもの」、「イラストの学校」といった和書も販売されており。

I wish more and more Japanse talented designers will activate and introduced to the world.

この領域は確実に世界に認知されていることを実感。デザイナーさん達、頑張って世界に通じる作品を作って下さい。

Liberty London

Visted Liberty in SOHO (taken by my family.)
柄でもなく、家族に連れられSOHOのLibertyへ。

Good sence in decorating.

Prints Charmingというイベント中でした。

劇場の椅子をもぎとってきて、マネキンを座らせるところなど、さすが。

You can not resist to buy these antiuque stuff.

アンティークコーナーは、ちょっとしたギャラリー並のレベル。

They are trying to reach new points beyond their traditional patterns.
昔ながらのLiberty柄だけでなく、新しい取り組みにも意欲的。

Proud to find Japanese drawings at the corner.
絵画コーナーには日本画の展示販売も。少し嬉しい。

My choice of the day. It was already sold and priced about GBP1600, really a nice stuff.

僕のこれ１はこのキャビネット。既に売約済みでしたが、約２０万円、欲しいなあ。
